Each part of the hierarchy had an important role to play. They had to be a firm believer in the Church. Pope Gregory created policies, and modify many parts of the Church. Each Pope had the power to influence the kings that were in power. If it had not been for the people, and the hierarchy of the Church, the Church might have died. The Catholic Church did hold up during the Middle Ages due to the people and events that took place.
