On November 28th, 1942 a turn on broke out in Cocoanut orchard nightclub in Boston. The fire killed approximately 492 people, injuring 166, and impacting numerous others (Cocoanut Grove Fire). This event became known as one of the deadliest nightclub fires of its time. Many utilitarian theorists believe there are 2 kinds of good, infixed and instrumental. Intrinsic good is good considered just by itself while all other things are instruments for gaining the intrinsic goods (Schinzinger 55). Mill believes that the only intrinsic good is merriment and thus the emphasis can be rewritten as the greatest happiness produced for the greatest number of people. In other words, happiness is fundamentally the only thing desirable as an end in itself. However, at a time again we ask the question of what happiness really is.
