E.Dickinson : I died for beauty ....I was scarce...

Commentary The speaker unit says that she died for Beauty, but she was exactly adjusted to her tomb ear lie inr a man who died for committal was laid in a tomb next to her. The speaker says that they met at night, as Kinsmen, and talked in the midst of their tombs until the moss reached their lips and covered up the names on their tombstones. This verse follows umteen of Dickinsons typical formal patterns--the ABCB frost scheme, the rhythmic theatrical reference of the dash to interrupt the flow--but has a more regular meter, so that the first and third lines in each stanza are iambic tetrameter, while the second and quaternary lines are iambic trimeter, creating a four-three-four-three stress pattern in each stanza. This bizarre, allegorical decision fantasy recalls Keats (Beauty is justness, Truth Beauty, from Ode on a important Urn), but its manner of video display belongs uniquely to Dickinson. In this condensed lyric, Dickinson manages to overwhelm a sense of the stern physicality of close (Until the Moss had reached our lips--), the appalling idealism of martyrdom (I died for Beauty. . .

One who died for Truth), a certain kind of wild-eyed yearning unite with desire for Platonic social club (And so, as Kinsmen, met a Night--), and an optimism some the afterlife (it would be nice to set out a like friend) with but sublimated terror nigh the fact of final award (it would be horrible to lie in the cemetery having a conversation through the walls of a tomb). As the poem progresses, the luxuriously idealism and yearning for companionship gradually give business to mute, cold death, as the moss locomote up the speakers corpse and...
